MONTREAL – Transcontinental Inc. says it has completed the sale of its packaging business to ProAmpac Holdings Inc.

The company initially announced the deal in December of last year, worth about $2.22 billion, including debt lease obligations.

Last month, Transcontinental shareholders approved the sale of the packaging business.

Isabelle Marcoux, the executive chair of Transcontinental’s board, says the sale will allow the company to focus its resources on its retail services and printing as well as its educational publishing segments.

Transcontinental says it expects to distribute about $20 per share to its shareholders.

It says more information about the distribution will be provided on March 10, as it reports results for the first quarter of 2026.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 6, 2026.
