More than $8 million is still on the table for Manitoba businesses seeking to fund security measures.
As of March 6, the province had dispersed $1,782,952 in security rebates — a fraction of the $10 million slated for the initiative, which launched in December.
Money had been sent to 967 Manitoba businesses by March 6, a government spokesperson wrote in a statement.
The province issued a news release Friday reminding entrepreneurs of the rebate.
“The uptake has been incredible,” Justice Minister Matt Wiebe said in the release. The province is issuing more than $100,000 per week in payouts to businesses on average, Wiebe said.
The program operates on a first-come, first-serve basis for companies with 75 or fewer employees per location. Eligible businesses can receive up to $2,500 per location.
Cash is used to offset security equipment and property damage bills from Aug. 23, 2024, onward.
