MONTREAL – Montreal police say they’ve made an arrest after a man was killed inside a convenience store in the city’s Plateau Mont-Royal district on Thursday.

Const. Raphaël Bergeron says the victim, a man in his mid-50s, is officially the city’s fifth recorded homicide of 2026.

Major crimes investigators are expected to meet with the suspect, who was arrested at a downtown office building a few kilometres away from the scene of the alleged crime.

Police were first called to the scene at 7:30 a.m. where they found an unconscious man inside the store on Berri Street near the intersection of St. Joseph Boulevard, across the street from the Laurier metro station.

Paramedics later confirmed the death at the scene.

Bergeron says crime scene investigators and homicide detectives are still working the scene.
