Steinbach Credit Union tabs $15M cash-back bonus; The Pas Red Apple renovated

For the second year in a row, Steinbach Credit Union has tabbed $15 million for distribution among its membership.

When SCU announced the amount last year, it said it was the largest bonus of its kind in Manitoba credit union history.

A cash-back bonus happens annually at the financial co-operative. In 2024, SCU circulated $12 million to its members. Money is deposited directly into customers’ accounts.

SCU announced the latest bonus in a news release on Wednesday. Last year was fiscally strong, per the release: SCU added 6,600 new members and grew its assets by eight per cent to reach $11 billion.

In 2025, the board of directors contributed more than $1 million to dozens of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Health Sciences Centre Foundation and St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.

SCU has more than 115,000 members across its three branches: one in Steinbach and two in Winnipeg.

Red Apple in The Pas renovated

Red Apple, the Canadian chain of more than 140 small-town general merchandise retail stores, has renovated its store in The Pas.

The renovations were designed to improve the shopping experience, the company said in a news release Wednesday. Updates include a more modern, open store layout; new signage and displays to make deals easy to find; and a candy shop aimed at shoppers of all ages.

The public is invited to the store’s grand opening April 10, which will include a ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. and giveaways while quantities last.

Located 625 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, The Pas has a population of 5,600, according to the 2021 census. Red Apple has 19 locations across Manitoba.
