Algoma CEO Rajat Marwah says the first quarter of 2026 marked a defining moment for the company as it fully transitioned to electric arc furnace steelmaking.

He says the transition comes after years of planning and nearly $1 billion in investment.

Earlier this month, Algoma Steel reported its shipments during the fourth quarter were 378,533 tons, down 31 per cent year-over-year from 548,802 tons.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 31, 2026.
