VANCOUVER – Orla Mining Ltd. says operations at its Camino Rojo mine in Mexico have been halted due to what it says is an illegal work stoppage and blockade by unionized workers at the site.

The miner says equipment required to maintain the safety of the operation and the environment continues to be operated and monitored.

Orla says the work stoppage is in connection with negotiations regarding a productivity bonus and a profit-sharing entitlement.

It says members of the unionized workforce objected to the amount paid under the profit-sharing plan and started the stoppage and blockade.

Orla says it’s in talks with union leadership and a meeting between the company and the union with Mexico’s Department of Federal Labour Conciliation is set for Tuesday.

Last month, Orla announced a deal to combine operations with Equinox Gold Corp.
