Downtown Winnipeg is without a Keg restaurant — for a couple of months, anyways.
The Keg Steakhouse and Bar vacated 115 Garry St. on Wednesday, after more than five decades at the location. It will open in a new Donald Street apartment tower this fall.
Its move comes after years of waiting. The DSM, at 185 Donald St., sat as a partially started apartment block after its developer stopped operating and sought creditor protection in April 2023. The developer began the project in 2019.

The Keg Steakhouse and Bar had called Garry Street home for more than five decades.
Carrington Real Estate took over in 2024. Part of the 14-storey site’s initial plans — pre-Carrington — was for the Keg to occupy the main floor.
The Keg sought more space, said Scott Stephen, the restaurant’s operations director.
“We’ve expanded the building as much as we can,” he said of the Garry Street hub.
The Donald Street Keg, at roughly 10,000 square feet, will have a bigger bar. Its opening should come in late fall, pending construction, Stephen said.
The Keg vacated Garry Street this week because of an ending lease. The space held about 300 customers, including at its bar, Stephen said.
“We’re super excited to stay downtown,” he added. “We love being in downtown. It’s vibrant.”
Jared Carrington, president of Carrington Real Estate, said the company is “very much looking forward” to the Keg’s tenancy.
The DSM apartment should open this fall, he added.
Carrington Real Estate’s office will occupy the second floor. The upper levels will be consumed by 160 rental units; 25 per cent will be listed as affordable.
The Keg also has locations at 2034 McGillivray Blvd. and 2553 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg.
