SASKATOON – Nutrien Ltd. says it’s shutting down its Trinidad nitrogen operations at the Point Lisas Facility indefinitely.

The company says it made the decision due to ongoing natural gas constraints and uncertainty.

The move comes after Nutrien implemented a controlled shutdown of the facility on Oct. 23, 2025, due to port access restrictions and a lack of reliable and economic natural gas supply.

The company says there will be no impact to its nitrogen sales volume forecast as it already assumed no production from the Trinidad operations.

Nutrien says it remains well positioned to meet customer demand for nitrogen and grow volumes from its North American unit.

Nitrogen is used in fertilizer, animal feed and in the production of industrial products.
