S&P/TSX composite gains over 100 points, U.S. markets see mixed results

TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index gained more than 100 points Thursday, helped by strength in the energy sector, while U.S. markets were mixed. 

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 103.52 points at 35,145.38.    

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 51.77 points at 51,231.64. The S&P 500 index was down 36.41 points at 7,765.36, while the Nasdaq composite was down 345.35 points at 27,193.34.

The Canadian dollar traded for 70.22 cents US compared with 70.14 cents US on Wednesday.    

The November crude oil contract was up US$3.21 at US$91.49 per barrel.         

The December gold contract was up US$16.30 at US$4,157.00 an ounce.
