Hey there, time traveller!

Developers officially broke ground Tuesday on the city’s latest hotel project — the $35-million Hilton Garden Inn Winnipeg South that will be a key component in the high-profile Seasons retail/hotel/office/residential development in southwest Winnipeg.
As reported last month in the Free Press, the four-star, 127-room hotel is being developed by SK Developments Inc., a family-owned firm launched in 1988 by local businessman Darshan Kaila.
SK officials said Tuesday the six-storey, 86,565-square-foot hotel will feature a beer vendor, an indoor pool, a full-service restaurant and bar with an outdoor patio, and 2,500 square feet of meeting space.
Expected to open late next summer, it will be the city’s first Hilton Garden Inn.
“SK Developments is thrilled to partner with Hilton Worldwide to bring the first Hilton Garden Inn to Winnipeg and Manitoba, where it will be the only hotel in the area,” said SK Developments vice-president Moni Kaila.
“The Hilton Garden Inn Winnipeg South will provide tourists, business travellers and shoppers with all the amenities they need, whether they’re visiting the hotel and area for business or pleasure,” Kaila added.
“When complete, the Hilton Garden Inn Winnipeg South will provide travellers with award-winning service, inviting social spaces and much more to ensure a great stay at an even greater value,” said Charles Stuart, director of brand performance support for Hilton Garden Inn.
“Manitoba’s many unique attractions welcome visitors from all over the world,” said MLA Kelly Bindle, legislative assistant to Manitoba’s minister of growth, enterprise and trade. “Manitoba’s new government welcomes the significant investment in this project by SK Developments, their partners and Hilton Worldwide. These kind of partnerships create jobs, attract tourism dollars, and contribute to a stronger Manitoba economy.”
“This great development is yet another example of how Winnipeg is on the move,” said city councillor Marty Morantz (Charleswood – Tuxedo – Whyte Ridge). “I have been enthusiastically watching the development transform the area every day.”
