Hey there, time traveller!

As Edo Japan rolls out fast-food sushi restaurants across the country, Winnipeg will become home to two new locations looking to capitalize on consumers’ taste for teriyaki and udon.
The Calgary-based company’s Japanese-inspired menu includes bento boxes, rice dishes and assorted rolls. Lighter fares include tempura snacks and soup, as well as other teppan-style grab-and-go items.
Vice-president operations Terry Foster said what makes Edo stand out is its selection of menu items are prepared fresh on a 400 F degree teppan grill, which sears the ingredients and “locks in” flavours. As well, he said it’s an alternative to fast-food grub.
There are currently more than 140 locations in shopping centres and food courts across the country. The new Winnipeg location at Fort Richmond Plaza (50–2844 Pembina Hwy.) is already open, while the Kenaston Crossing (10–1650 Kenaston Blvd.) one is expected to start serving sushi in the spring.
The street-front restaurants join the chain’s first Winnipeg franchise, which opened in the food court at CF Polo Park in 2018.
Foster said the company expects to roll out 15 new stores this year and 15 to 20 in 2021, “and for many years to come.”
The Pirani Group, which has established itself in the franchising industry across Canada, will oversee the chain’s Winnipeg operations.
