Christmas came early to the mother and daughter who run Piccola Cucina.
That’s because their artisanal gourmet products are now being featured on the website of retail giant Costco.
"We are filled with gratitude to be joining the Costco family and look forward to continued growth and opportunities," said Pina Romolo, president and CEO of Piccola Cucina.
Raising awareness of their company has been a decade in the making. In 2009, Pina and her mother Anita Romolo began manufacturing their products, which include macaroons and pie crusts made from almond flour.
"There has been a lot of ups and downs and there has been a lot of great things that have happened for us," Romolo said.
The opportunity to work with Costco.ca raises the profile of the company, Romolo said, adding they are ready for the challenge of working with a retail giant.
"This gives us the opportunity to leverage that relationship and hopefully look towards getting products into the actual warehouses," Romolo said.
Romolo said there is a sense of pride of running a business within the family and using their traditional Italian recipes as the basis for their products.
"Doing this with my mom, there’s an unspoken dance we have working together. Having the privilege of doing this with her has been a blessing for me," she said.
A certified women-owned business, Romolo added that Piccola Cucina is looking to capitalize on its growth.
"We have pretty great opportunities south of the border, and export is something that we are really excited about," she said.
