Inflatable furniture boasts deflated prices

I remember inflatable furniture from my childhood. Cheap to buy but also cheaply made; more of a toy really. Well, today this style of furniture has made a resurgence in vibrant colours and with plastics that last. It's a fun and somewhat faddish, retro kind of resurrection but it has its place in today's decor. Like motion lamps and bean bag chairs, inflatable furniture appeals to our memories of a more lighthearted, carefree time. For the younger generation, this "new" style of furniture is just plain fun. After all, what other piece of furniture can be bounced on, is light enough to pick up and move or can be deflated and stored away when needed? If only all furniture were so versatile.

I remember inflatable furniture from my childhood. Cheap to buy but also cheaply made; more of a toy really. Well, today this style of furniture has made a resurgence in vibrant colours and with plastics that last. It’s a fun and somewhat faddish, retro kind of resurrection but it has its place in today’s decor. Like motion lamps and bean bag chairs, inflatable furniture appeals to our memories of a more lighthearted, carefree time. For the younger generation, this “new” style of furniture is just plain fun. After all, what other piece of furniture can be bounced on, is light enough to pick up and move or can be deflated and stored away when needed? If only all furniture were so versatile.

Inexpensive

Compared to any other piece of furniture, the inflatable piece is most likely going to be the cheaper of the two. This factor alone makes the inflatable chair, for instance, an appealing prospect for extra seating in a student’s apartment, a child’s play/bedroom room or the family rec room. Today’s inflatable furniture is more sophisticated as well, dawning inflatable ottomans and inflatable pillows as matching pieces to the inflatable chair or sofa. The styles are modern boasting colours like silver while others are clear without any colour. Some styles have patterns and others are sleek and smooth. What fun gifts these pieces would make in the right circumstances. If you have to ship your gifts, the deflated furniture pieces are going to cost you less in shipping costs and will most likely make it there undamaged as is not always the case with ‘real’ furniture.

For the outdoors

Even the Coleman company sees the market need for inflatable sofas and chairs for sitting around the campfire. Imagine … bringing an entire living room set with you along to the campsite! When you think about it though, it’s really not all that far-fetched. I mean, we’ve been sleeping on inflatable beds in our tents for years; why not the sofa and chair to match? These outdoor products are made of more durable plastics and therefore are a little more expensive than indoor pieces. This versatile outdoor furniture might also be put to good use on a deck, patio or balcony because they can withstand the wet weather and are easily cleaned with a damp cloth.

Comfort and ease

On the downside, older ones like mine are not going to be terribly comfortable for long periods in these retro pieces; however, the younger generation (who prefer to sit on the floor anyway) will love it. Most pieces inflate with a hair dryer or shop vacuum or the good old foot pump that we know from our air mattress camping adventures so you don’t have to worry about having the lung capacity to inflate these pieces.

Having fun is one of the better parts of life so let your hair down a little and consider one of these fun and funky pieces for your home.
