WASHINGTON — One of the FBI’s most wanted terrorist suspects lived in Toronto for at least six years and had sought a duplicate driver’s licence for the second time since August, a Toronto newspaper reported today.
The Toronto Sun said today that the RCMP had issued a Canada-wide warrant for Nabil Al-Marabh, 35, after he failed to show up for a court appearance in Welland, Ont., last Thursday.
Authorities said he had been arrested in June in Niagara Falls, Ont., after being accused of possessing a forged passport.
The Sun reported that he lived in Toronto for a least six years, up until June 2000.
The Associated Press reported that Al-Marabh had a criminal record, kept multiple addresses in at least two states and was authorized to drive a truck carrying hazardous materials. On Monday, he was in Three Oaks, Mich., getting a duplicate driver’s licence for the second time since August.
Hours later, federal agents arrested three men at a Detroit house with Al-Marabh’s name on the mailbox. The FBI list that Al-Marabh is on includes suspects, potential associates of the suspects, and potential witnesses related to the attacks, the FBI said.
Police and American news reports have linked Al-Marabh with Osama bin Laden and two of the hijackers who crashed planes into the World Trade Centre, Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
