Hotels and motels across Canada are offering hot summer deals, and some will even help pay for the gas to get to them. Choice Hotels Canada is giving guests $5 in Esso gas with stays at its 255 Comfort Inns, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion and Econo Lodge properties. To be eligible for the gas money, guests must stay at least two consecutive nights through Sept. 15 and pay with MasterCard. Along with the chain-wide summer promotion, guests can also enjoy "property-specific deals" throughout the year, said Melissa Kenney, a manager with the chain. The promotions are on the Web at www.choicehotels.ca on each hotel's e-brochure under the heading Specials. Booking rooms on-line also offers a Best Choice rate, or call 1-800-4-CHOICE. Holiday Inns are advertising a $5 Shell gas certificate with two-night stays and 10 bonus Air Miles with the use of a Bank of Montreal MasterCard. Travellers can get a free night when they book a Great Canadian Getaway to one of 30 destinations from St. John's, Nfld., to Vancouver at CHIP Hospitality properties. Rates start as low as $79 per night, with a third consecutive night free through Dec. 28, said spokesman Bill Eisenhauer. A contest to win a getaway, including airfare for four, is available for on-line bookings at GreatCanadianHotels.com. The Sheraton Centre in Toronto, with 43 floors, 1,377 guestrooms and picturesque waterfall gardens and terraces, offers an Entertainment Package at $239 a night, Thursday through Sunday nights to Oct. 31. It provides accommodation with continental breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres at the private Club Lounge on the 43rd floor, two movie passes or in-room movie and valet parking. At Toronto's Fairmont Royal York hotel, the Play All Day package includes accommodation in a junior suite, breakfast and four passes to Ontario Place amusement park.   • At Edmonton’s Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, couples looking to relive the romance of their honeymoon can take a step back in time. The hotel is offering couples great rates based on the year they were married. The longer the marriage, the greater the savings. For example, guests married in 1968 will get a one night’s stay for $68, compared to $101 a night for a couple married in 2001. The Honeymoon Rate offer is valid until July 31, with couples having to present their marriage certificate. Call 1-800-441-1414, 780-424-5181 or go on-line (www.fairmont.com).
  • Hilton hotels are offering special getaway packages and discounted rates at the 18 properties in Canada. These include programs such as BounceBack, Vacation Station with a toy-lending desk, Easy Escapes and the Romance Package.
  • The newly opened Long Beach Lodge in Tofino, B.C., has summer “introductory rates” from $170 a night. Set on the beach at Cox Bay on Vancouver Island, the 43- room resort is set among towering trees and has spectacular views of the ocean.
  • Opus Hotel is Vancouver’s new luxury boutique hotel in the Yaletown district, with 97 guest rooms and suites featuring five designs, ranging from sleek minimalist to eclectic contemporary.
  • The Westin Bayshore Resort and Marina in Vancouver has the Wheels and Reels package at the newly renovated resort with bicycle or Rollerblade blade rentals for a family of four and an in-room movie and popcorn. The package is $189 nightly through Sept. 30.
  • The recently opened Sleep Inn in Bracebridge, Ont., in the Muskoka vacation region — the third “luxury budget” Sleep Inn in Canada — provides free continental breakfasts with average room rates of $65 to $111.
  • The Four Points by Sheraton Toronto Airport has summer specials for families, with packages starting at $119 nightly. Included are kids-eat-free-and-stay-free deals, in-room movies, Nintendo and pool, sauna and whirlpool facilities. Discount tickets are available for Canada’s Wonderland, Wild Water Kingdom and Playdium.
  • The 977-room Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto has completed $2 million in renovations with 10 of its meeting rooms having floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Lake Ontario.
  • The Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto offers the Art at the Met package in partnership with the Art Gallery of Ontario and its Surrealist Summer exhibit. Included is accommodation, a gourmet welcome amenity, two tickets to the exhibition and a $20 gift certificate for the gallery gift shop. Package prices start at $199.
  • The Westin Ottawa is offering a two-night package for families at $289 through Sept. 2, with passes to the Children’s Museum, Museum of Nature and choice of the Aviation, Agriculture or War museums.

  • The Sheraton Fredericton in New Brunswick marked its 10th anniversary with more than $300,000 in renovations. Included is ultra-high-speed Internet in the meeting rooms and renovations to the fitness centre at the 222-room hotel on the St. John River.
