Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 24/11/2002 (8532 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
We often receive lots of calls from anxious parents looking for a fun and traditional toy to make for their children. For its ease and simplicity, we often suggest this week’s project, our Hi-Ho Rocking Horse.
This project is perfect for the novice as it requires a minimum of tools, materials and skill to complete. As with our other rocking toys, including our Rocking Cow and Rocking Motorcycle, the horse can be built primarily by using only a hammer, saw and drill.
The horse’s special seat provides for a comfortable ride, and the project’s sturdy design means that it will last for years and can be passed from one child to the next.
As always, full-size patterns let you trace each part directly onto your wood. Then simply saw, sand and assemble the pieces. Step-by-step instructions and illustrations show you how.
When finished, the rocking horse stands 30 inches tall with a seat height of 19 inches.
To begin your Rocking Horse, ask for Pattern No. LC4 and send $19.95 (please add $5 for postage and GST). For the rocking motorcycle, ask for No. 5019, and for the rocking cow, No. 5027. Each of these plans is $17.95, but you can save and order all three plans for only $39.95 (postage and GST included).
Make your cheque or money order payable to “Constructive Ideas” and mail it, along with your request, to: The Winnipeg Free Press, c/o PO Box 400, Beaconsfield, QC, H9W 5T9.
You may also order by calling toll free, 1-800-561-8383 and by charging it to your Visa or MasterCard. Or visit our Web site at www.greatplans.com.
To make your work easier, we can also provide you with a few sheets of over-size carbon paper which you can use to transfer your designs onto your wood. Simply ask for the carbon paper, and send an additional $6.
