Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 09/02/2003 (8362 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
The good looks and space-saving convenience of this futon sofa bed make it ideal for do-it-yourselfers with a limited amount of space. It serves as a casual, comfortable sofa by day and a firm bed by night, without the springs and lumps of most sofa beds.
The futon is just one of three space saving ideas that help you accommodate overnight guests. Also available are plans for a Murphy bed, and a convertible sofa and table set, at a special price.
The futon is made for a full-size mattress and sits more upright than most commercial models making it more cozy and practical than other designs. It also folds easily in one simple and fluid motion, so one person can set it up alone.
All the wood needed for this project is of standard size and most cuts are straight cuts. All others can be traced from full-size patterns. The plans for this project, as well as the Murphy bed and the convertible sofa and table set, come with complete step-by-step instructions, exploded diagrams, a materials list and cutting schedule.
The futon measures 86-inches long, 33-inches tall and 36-inches deep.
To begin your futon, ask for pattern No. 5052 and send $15.95 (please add $4 for postage and GST). For the plans for the bonus Murphy bed and convertible sofa and table, ask for plans No. 7000 and 2958, and send an additional $15. Individually, these plans are also $19.95.
Make your cheque or money order payable to “Constructive Ideas” and mail it, along with your request, to: The Winnipeg Free Press, c/o PO Box 400, Beaconsfield, PQ, H9W 5T9.
You may also order by calling toll-free, 1-800-561-8383 and by charging it to your Visa or MasterCard. Or, visit our web site at www.greatplans.com.
