REGINA (CP) – Alexandra Orlando of Toronto earned her fifth consecutive national all around title in rhythmic gymnastics on Friday at the Canadian gymnastics championships.

Orlando, who won a record six gold medals at the Commonwealth Games last year, posted the best scores on all four apparatus – clubs, ribbon, rope, hoops – for 66.533 points. Stephanie Carew of Toronto was second at 60.399 and Carly Orava of Toronto third at 59.458.

“I’ve improved so much this season, I’m really pleased,” said Orlando, 20, who’ll look for a golden sweep in all four event finals on Saturday. “I had a bit of a slow start to the competition but I came back really strong and finished with my best routine of the day in clubs.”

In junior rhythmic gymnastics, Nerissa Mo of Vancouver posted the best scores on all four apparatus for the all around gold at 57.692 points. Jessica Ho of Vancouver was second at 52.175 and Clara Bernier of Vancouver third at 50.564.

Competition ends Saturday with the event finals in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline and tumbling.
