HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Collins Industries, a manufacturer of specialty vehicles in the United States, says it has bought select assets from Les Entreprises Michel Corbeil Inc., a Quebec-based bus maker, for an undisclosed price.
“This purchase will give our bus division a significant platform to continue our growth in the Type-A bus market,” Randall Swift, president and CEO of Collins, said in a statement Thursday from the U.S. company’s head office in Kansas.
Collins said it plans to continue to market the Corbeil bus brand throughout the northeastern United States and Canada through dealer and national account relationships.
Financial terms of the transaction were not revealed.
“The purchase of select assets from Les Entreprises Michel Corbeil Inc. should send a clear message to our dealers and customers of our commitment to this industry,” said Kent Tyler, president of Collins Bus division.
” As the leading manufacturer of Type-A buses, we will use this purchase to expand our customer base throughout North America.”
Collins Industries, a subsidiary of BNS Holding Inc., is a leading manufacturer of ambulances, rescue vehicles and fire emergency vehicles as well as North America’s largest producer of small school buses.
The company has about 1,000 employees at five plants.
Corbeil is located in St-Lin, a village about 48 kilometres north of Montreal at the foothills of the Laurentian Mountains. The company makes about 2,500 mini-buses a year.
