ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Kristina Vaculik of Oshawa, Ont., posted the best scores on uneven bars and beam en route to the women’s all around senior title on Friday at the Elite Canada gymnastics competition.
Vaculik, the reigning Canadian senior all around champion, totalled 56.900 points with Peng Peng Lee of Toronto second at 56.150 and Nansy Damianova of Montreal third at 56.100.
Sydney Sawa of Calgary was fourth, Aisha Gerber of Oakville, Ont., fifth and Emma Willis of Sarnia, Ont., sixth.
“My uneven bars was really good,” said Vaculik, who is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Olympics test event in Beijing. “I could have just improved a bit more on my first turn. The beam was also solid. But I felt very comfortable competing today.
“I’ve really learned from experiences of competing at the worlds and the Beijing test event this year.”
Lee, competing for the first time at the senior level at nationals, posted the top score on floor while Damianova was the best on vault.
This year’s Elite Canada has added importance as one of several Olympic qualifying events for members of the senior women’s team.
