MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Somebeachsomewhere and Tell All finished in a dead heat Saturday night.
Tell All and Somebeachsomewhere shared horse-of-the-year honours at the O’Brien Awards. Tell All was voted Canada’s top three-year-old pacing colt while the undefeated Somebeachsomewhere captured the two-year-old honour.
It was just the second time in event history that two teams finished tied for top horse honours. In’96, Whenyouwishuponastar and Riyadh shared the award.
Jody Jamieson, Tell All’s regular driver, captured top driver honour while Blair Burgess, the colt’s conditioner, was named Canada’s top trainer.
Jamieson, 31, of Cambridge, Ont., finished second in the top driver voting in 2006. He enjoyed a banner ’07 campaign, topping the earnings chart for drivers with over $10 million while driving 379 winners. Included were the Pepsi North America Cup and Little Brown Jug.
Jamieson was also the regular reinsman for Michelles Power, the top three-year-old filly pacer and O’Brien nominee Santanna Blue Chip.
Burgess, 46, of Milton, Ont., recorded 28 victories and registered $1.2 million in earnings.
American-owned Tell All won 12 races and $1.5 million in earnings this year. The Real Desire colt managed to score victories in two prestigious races that eluded his sire – the North America Cup and Little Brown Jug.
Somebeachsomewhere, owned by the Schooner Stable of Truro, N.S., won all six season starts, including a 1:49.3 victory in the lucrative Metro Pace, making him the sport’s fastest two-year-old pacer.
Moving Pictures was named Canada’s older pacing mare after winning nine races and $866,000 in earnings. Moving Pictures is owned by Steve Calhoun and Mike Lindley of Chatham, Ont.
Millionaire Lis Mara was named Canada’s top older pacing horse for the second straight year. The American-owned son of Cambest scored his second consecutive Canadian Pacing Derby victory during his $1-million season.
Pampered Princess was named Canada’s top three-year-old trotting filly. She won more than $1 million this year.
A And Gs Confusion claimed two-year-old pacing filly honours after finishing first or second in nine of 10 season starts.
