Grace Hospital timeline
1890: The Salvation Army creates a rescue home for women and children on Ross Avenue.
1904: The rescue home is incorporated as The Salvation Army Grace General Hospital, the first Salvation Army hospital to be incorporated in Canada.
1906: A new building goes up on the corner of Preston Avenue and Arlington Street, including a School of Nursing.
1927: Facility is transformed from a maternity to a general hospital with the addition of a new wing.
1930: Hospital is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and a new lab created.
1940s: A new School of Nursing building and new surgical wing open, and first chaplain and public health nurse join staff.
1950s: The hospital is evacuated and placed under military control during the great Red River flood. A new obstetrical wing opens late in the decade.
1967: New hospital at 300 Booth Dr. officially opens.
1973: Psychiatric wing is built.
1980s: Extended treatment unit for long-term mental health patients opens, as does obstetrical clinic.
1990s: Obstetrics department closes, and School of Nursing program ends.
2004: Grace Hospice palliative care facility opens.
April 1, 2008: Grace Hospital management to be transferred to Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
