I often wonder why everyday items can't be offered in fashionable colours. Wouldn't it be great to able to buy a purple toaster or a hot pink television? These examples may seem extreme but it would be nice to have more options when it comes to colour. Well, some manufacturers are listening and are starting to offer more choice in the colour realm.

Hey there, time traveller!

I often wonder why everyday items can’t be offered in fashionable colours. Wouldn’t it be great to able to buy a purple toaster or a hot pink television? These examples may seem extreme but it would be nice to have more options when it comes to colour. Well, some manufacturers are listening and are starting to offer more choice in the colour realm.

Jonathan Adler, the world-renowned designer and colour guru, partnered with Kohler to introduce four special edition colours available only on six select Kohler enameled cast iron kitchen and bathroom sinks. Each piece is crafted in the foundry located in the village of Kohler, Wisconsin.

It’s more than a shared passion for colour that brought these two brands together. Both are deeply committed to impeccable quality and timelessly bold design.

For optimum colour vibrancy, Kohler Co. is offering the four new colours on six of its Kohler enamelled cast iron kitchens and sinks.

“Kohler, like Jonathan Adler, prides itself on creating heirloom-quality products,” said Kohler creative director Tristan Butterfield. “That shared vision made this partnership much more than a natural fit — it made it a fun one.”

I think the new colours are creamy and rich, fresh and imaginative. Including one bold colour, via one of these unique sinks, can set the tone for a truly fabulous space.

The following are the four Kohler colours featuring Jonathan Adler:

— Greenwich Green captures the beauty of the perfectly manicured lawns of an English estate — cultured and cultivated. “This is not dull avocado green,” Adler said. “It’s bolder, yet timeless. So crisp and refreshing you can taste it.”

— Piccadilly Yellow evokes the riot of colours from London’s Piccadilly Circus. Exuberant and fun, a Piccadilly Yellow kitchen or bathroom sink instantly fills the space with giddiness. Adler said: “There’s a very mod quality to Piccadilly Yellow, especially when paired with white. It’s unexpected and will always feel fresh.”

— Palermo Blue is beautiful, serene splash of the Mediterranean Sea where it opens before the city of Palermo on Sicily. “A nice, crisp light blue is cool and refreshing,” Adler said. “Like taking a dip in the Med itself.”

— Annapolis Navy, an unconditionally classic hue, calls to mind the sailing city of Annapolis on Maryland’s Severn River.

“Annapolis Navy epitomizes nautical chic. It’s such a classic colour because it pairs so well with other bold colours,” he said.

For optimum colour vibrancy, Kohler Co. is offering the four new colours on six of its Kohler enamelled cast iron kitchens and sinks.

“The materials used in the enameling process are incredibly saturated and vibrant,” Butterfield explains. “Such an exclamation of colour in a space should be as rich as possible. And Kohler enameled cast iron allows us to achieve that.”

Looking back

It’s fun to look back at styles and colours from the past. From avocado green appliances to pink sinks, tubs and toilets, the once fashionable colours do speak to the era in which they were popular. Many of these colours are making a comeback in one form or another. Considered dated at one point in time, now they are kitschy and retro. Fashion in any form does seem to make its way back over time, albeit with a new twist to make it more contemporary.

For those of you who crave a truly unique décor, consider including some of the fashionable colours that are available in these specialty products. The extra effort of finding that perfect colour can be well worth it in the end.
