Hey there, time traveller!

WHO IS THAT MAN? Eduardo Rodriguez from Cirque du Soleil fame is the hot malambo performer at the Argentina Tango pavilion who’s got Winnipeg women’s hearts aflutter. The man looks like Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia as he duels with Christian Galeano. Plus, Rodriguez dances a scandalously sensual tango with wife Veronica Aquino, whom he picked up from their home in Argentina for a dance week in the Peg … Spotted holding hands watching the show — stars of the Italian pavilion show, Mario and Josie Audino, Italian immigrants who became well-known Winnipeg teachers.
Mayor Sam Katz sat at the next VIP table to yours truly at the Caribbean pavilion opening night. Lucky man. I caught the panorama of emotions crossing the mayor’s face when the hot female limbo dancer came off the stage, making a beeline for Katz and his lady friend. The bubble above his head? "Which one of us is she after? Me? Oh my God!. . Oh No! Oh yes! Election coming. Big smile!” And off he went. Kudos to Katz, who actually limbos quite nimbly. Volunteers noted police Chief Keith McCaskill came to the early show with a couple of police officers, and guess who had to limbo instead of the chief? Premier Greg Selinger was a no-show Monday night at the pavilion — word is he got hung up in "Kiev." Or was he outside practising his limbo?

SPEAKING OF HOT… Check out the XXX hot sauce in the Caribbean pavilion — not for sissies. "I like it when my eyes sweat!" says Roseanne Joseph, a volunteer for 19 years. Hint: Starchy foods will cool your mouth off, pop and water make it worse.

SPOTTED AT HIGH NOON: The Men With Brooms CBC film crew, sweating it out in front of Academy Lanes. They were filming a scene with series characters Pramesh (Anand Rajaram), novice curler and donut shop owner, and hapless curling skip Gary (Brendan Gail). Worker bees then had to schlep everything off the boiling sidewalk into the bowling alley for a scene of glow bowling. The series recently shot a glow curling scene at Fort Rouge Curling Club, making us the glow curling and Slurpee capital of the world.

WINNIPEG MODELLING NEWS: Because Winnipeggers are a cultural mix who make unusually beautiful babies, Panache Model Management is a major supplier to agencies globally. This summer Winnipegger Yewbnesh (Yoshi) Shershero, 19, is a "hot girl in the industry," says Panache agency owner Jane Campbell. Alyssa Lambert, 22, shot the Jean Paul Fortin shoe catalogue recently. Heidi Marie Dyck, 21, is in the brand new Wedding Bells magazine, shot on the coast of Newfoundland. Shawna Johnson, 22, has been on the cover of Shape magazine. Heather Corby, 34, is Panache’s most successful international New York model, now with the famous Wilhelmina agency, and just shot a major hair campaign for Europe for the Henkel-Schwartz hair product company.

SO, YA WANNA BE A STAR? Pst! Here’s a leg up for wannabe models: Just like the Idol show, there’s no experience needed. The entry deadline for the Winnipeg online contest for Faces West Model Search is Aug. 26 (girls aged 12 to 22, guys 15 to 25.) The Winnipeg winners get a paid entry to the Faces West International Model & Talent Conference in Vancouver this fall, 20 free modelling workshops with Panache, and will meet a leading talent scout from Milan, Italy. Last year, Panache’s Jackie Schram won top female model in the Vancouver finals and met 45 model agency scouts from New York to Milan.
