Winnipeg was hit with a severe case of Bieber fever Tuesday night, as thousands of excited tweens descended on the MTS Centre for Justin Bieber’s sold-out show.

Some carried signs, others painted their faces, while some teenage girls simply wore shirts that said, “marry me.” Ear-piercing screams began to erupt early in the evening, as eager fans could barely contain their anticipation over seeing the mop-topped heartthrob croon on-stage.

Kennedy McConnell’s knees were shaking as she and friend, Leeza Oravec, held hands and jumped up and down minutes before the doors opened.

“I’m so excited, oh my God,” said McConnell, 14.

“We’ve been counting down (to the concert) since Grade 8,” Oravec added. “It’s that big of a deal.”

Thirteen year-old Oravec said the reason behind their “crazy-obsession” with the 16-year-old Ontario native is simple — he can sing, he can dance, and of course, he’s really cute.

So adorable, that Renee Boily slipped JB her phone number during a backstage meet-and-greet.

Boily, 14, was the lucky winner of a Hot 103 radio contest, and she and friend Karmen Britton got a rare chance to have a brief chat with the singing sensation before the show. Boily said she was nervous that she might faint, but that Bieber asked her “how’s it going” and she gave him a card that included her contact info.

“I’m getting phone calls from half of my friends right now,” said Boily, answering her cell phone. “I touched his hair …we held hands!”

“I hope he texts us,” Britton said.

A mom at the show, Deborah Tegg-Daniels, said her home has become “Bieber fever central,” and her 16-year-old daughter Brooke barely has any wall space left to plaster JB’s face on. Tegg-Daniels said Brooke could rattle off any Bieber factoid, and hasn’t taken off her “Bieber fever” bracelet since she saw him perform in Toronto for her birthday.

Brooke said she and her sister drove to Toronto in June to score tickets to the Much Music Awards to see Bieber perform live.

“I waited in line for like, three or four days sleeping in a tent on the street,” she said. “He was on stage for four-and-a-half minutes. It was so worth it.”

Few male fans were on hand Tuesday night, which according to Bieberites is purely due to envy.

Friends Corinna Samson, Kristen Newman, Meghan MacDougall, Lauren Doyle, and Carly Rapinchuk said all the boys at Stonewall Collegiate hate JB, because all the girls are gaga over his hair, his looks, his songs, and “everything.”

“They’re all just jealous,” said Newman.
