Siloam Mission

What they do:

Since 1987, Siloam Mission has been providing programs and services for Winnipeg’s homeless and less fortunate. The Christian-based humanitarian organization offers clothes, meals, employment training, health services and emergency shelters to those in need of help.

“The services provided are not just for the homeless, but also the working poor who cannot afford a meal,” said Judy Richichi, director of development at Siloam Mission.

Hopes for the holidays:

Siloam Mission is committed to working with Winnipeg’s less fortunate — especially during the holidays.

“For people who come in, Christmas can be very lonely and sad,” Richichi said. “We try and support them by offering festive programs they can enjoy.”

The organization is prepping for the holidays by offering a Christmas-themed arts program and a toy store for parents who are not financially able to buy their children gifts.

“Parents can come in and choose a gift. It allows them to provide a toy from them to their children, which can be very empowering,” said Richichi.

Because homelessness does not take a holiday, volunteers are needed throughout the year.

Along with warm clothes, blankets and toys, Siloam hopes to provide a festive dinner for Winnipeg’s less fortunate.

How you can help:

Siloam Mission is always looking for volunteers and donations. Urgent needs for the holidays include: ground beef, mixed vegetables, coffee, buns, milk, sugar and gifts for teenagers (sports equipment or beauty products). Donations can be made online at www.siloam.ca or dropped off at 300 Princess St.
