A woman in her 20s suffered “significant” upper-body injuries in a beating so severe she isn’t yet able to speak, Winnipeg police said Sunday.
Police are asking for the public’s help after the woman, who might also have been sexually assaulted, was found Saturday morning and taken to hospital in unstable condition.
Police were called at about 7:30 a.m. to the 500 block Sherbrook Street regarding an injured woman who was found outside.
Police would not say if she was found with her clothing removed, only that there were signs it may have been a sex crime, and the sex crimes unit is investigating.
Police said Sunday they have no information regarding possible suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police sex crimes unit or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
RCMP investigate Cross Lake fire
RCMP are investigating a suspicious house fire in Cross Lake Saturday night.
No one was in the home at the time of the fire, police said.
The fire was reported at about 11:16 p.m. in the Wapack area of Cross Lake First Nation, RCMP said in a news release.
The Cross Lake Community Fire Department responded to the blaze, which completely engulfed the house in flames, police said.
Cross Lake RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating the incident.
