ALL-TALK Sports Radio 1290 is getting a new name.
TSN Radio 1290 debuts Wednesday.
Bell Media has announced that it is attaching the TSN brand to its Winnipeg 1290 station and its Team 990 station in Montreal.
Both TSN stations will feature live NHL hockey — TSN Radio 1290 is the broadcaster for the Winnipeg Jets, and TSN Radio 990 has the exclusive English-language radio broadcast rights to all Montreal Canadiens games.
“We are always looking to strengthen and extend the TSN brand,” Stewart Johnston, president of TSN, said in a prepared statement, adding that the name change will coincide with NHL packages as the hockey season gets underway.
TSN 1290’s weekday lineup is anchored by the popular Hustler & Lawless, with Winnipeg Free Press sports columnist Gary Lawless and Andrew (Hustler) Paterson. The morning program features Jets PA announcer Jay Richardson and former Bombers kicker Troy Westwood with The Big Show.
Some of TSN’s biggest on-air personalities will be regularly featured on 1290 — James Duthie, Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger, Pierre LeBrun, Ray Ferraro, Marc Crawford, Pierre McGuire, Brian Williams, Matt Dunigan and Michael Landsberg.
“Combining our local coverage with the TSN brand and its team of experts takes us to a new level and instantly make these stations the leading voice in local sports,” Chris Gordon, president of Bell Media Radio, said in a prepared statement.
Both the Winnipeg and Montreal stations will be available online at TSN.ca and on TSN Mobile.
TSN is a division of Bell Media, which is owned by BCE Inc.
