A concrete block wall at the new Winnipeg stadium construction site collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, prompting Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health officials to issue a stop-work order to prime and sub-contractors at the site.

No worker injuries were reported, and the investigation by WSH continues.

The 20-foot-by-25-foot wall fell at approximately 3:25 p.m., and the incident was reported by Stuart Olson Dominion Construction.

The stop-work order applied to all work being conducted by the sub-contractor, Alpha Masonry, at the site. The order was still in place on Thursday.

One on-site worker, who wished to remain anonymous, believed that high winds on Wednesday might have caused the collapse.

“Luckily, no one was inside that room,” the worker said. “If anybody was inside, they would have got it.”
