The forecast in Morris calls for a 60 per cent chance of flurries today, and a 100 per cent chance of rainbows.
Three groups from Winnipeg’s LGBT community plan to head out by the car-load this morning to show their support for two gay restaurant owners who announced this week they will close their diner April 13 after being subjected to anti-gay slurs.
Chad Smith, executive director of the Rainbow Resource Centre, anticipates a group of between 40 to 60 supporters who will travel to Morris in shifts and gather for lunch and dinner at the Pots N Hands restaurant. Members of Winnipeg Pride will also be part of the rally, along with various supporters who planned their own trip through Facebook.
“Just to show them (the restaurant owners) that the LGBT community is behind them,” Smith said.
“This is not about judging the people of Morris. Clearly, we all get there’s a small group of people that are engaging in homophobic behaviour.”
Smith did note that the supporters will include at least one group of drag queens.
“It will be interesting,” he said.
“Hopefully, there will be a lot of rainbows out there.”
The groups plan to gather beginning at 11 a.m. in the Round Table parking lot on Pembina Highway.
