Love hurts

Emma Roberts was in tears in public in New Orleans the other day after news got out about her July 7 arrest in Montreal for apparently giving her boyfriend, Evan Peters, a bloody nose in a hotel-room altercation.

He had some bite-marks, too. And in recent photos, Emma, the actress niece of Julia Roberts, was showing an adhesive bandage on one elbow and bruises or scrapes on her lower legs.

But what made her distraught now? Either she had hoped this could be kept secret or else her PR people told her to be seen to be upset.

US Weekly is spinning it sympathetically: “They’re a couple young kids,” said Nameless Insider. “Their romance is pretty extreme. They just behave in a way that’s very passionate.” Another source said: “Emma is very dramatic.”

He’s 26. She’s 22.

Weeds whacker

Mary-Louise Parker (of Weeds, and the RED movies) is musing about quitting show biz. She’s “almost done acting,” she told News Corp Australia.

Why? “The world has gotten too mean for me, it’s just too bitchy. All the websites and all the blogging and all the… hatred… it’s all so mean-spirited, it’s all so critical… You have no idea until it happens to you. It doesn’t feel nice.”

MLP — as we fans call her — is doing the media rounds plugging a new movie, R.I.P.D.

This is not about a dwindling career; she’s been working steadily. I hope she doesn’t mean it.

She’s 48.

The girl in the Downtown perfume

Look for Rooney Mara appearing in a moody little commercial for Calvin Klein’s perfume Downtown.

The one-minute film was made by David Fincher, her Dragon Tattoo director. In some shots, she looks quite a bit like Audrey Hepburn.

She’s 28.

Secret obsession

SERIAL babe-dater Adam Levine, of Maroon 5 and The Voice, is engaged to Namibian-born model Behati Prinsloo.

Strange. Last spring, these two split, and Adam wasted no time taking up with Nina Agdal, also a Victoria’s Secret model. Before Behati, he’d been with yet another VS model, Anne Vyalitsyna.

Life & Style, which had the engagement story, noted that as recently as last April, Adam was droning on about how many marriages fail, why bother, etc. But then on Oprah’s show, he said he’d like to marry someday.

He’s 34. Behati is 24.

Done, by George

For the record, Stacy Keibler has more or less confirmed that she and George Clooney are indeed done. It’s typical of George to do such things quietly, and Stacy has evidently learned the lesson.

Access Hollywood asked if she and Clooney were still friends after the split, and she answered: “Of course. There’s nothing really dramatic that happened, so it’s all good.”

She’s 33. He’s 52.

Singer was a little flat

Dull Normal Emily Krause and her boyfriend Joe (last name not given) were driving to a Dave Matthews Band show in Hershey, Penn., the other day. In a rural area, they stopped to help a bicyclist with a flat tire — and ended up driving the superstar to his show.

Matthews — for it was he — had no phone with him; he was stranded. Their car had a bike rack.

On the ride, they had a nice chat. “He’s just a very humble guy,” Krause told the local CBS station.

Matthews, grateful, invited them to dinner after the show, but they declined because, as Emily said, she would have “felt out of place.” (I told you they were Dull Normals.)

They did, however, accept his offer to go backstage and to enjoy front-row seats.

How she spent her summer vacation

How big is your holiday budget? The Daily Mail says Rihanna and model Cara Delevingne are spending $450,000 to rent a “super-yacht” for a two-week French Riviera holiday and have budgeted another $300,000 “for food and clubs.”

The paper cited no source for the figures but did offer photos of the two, with friends, on a big, fancy boat. In one, Rihanna shows Cara “the correct technique for chasing (a tequila) shot with a segment of lemon.”

The two pals will “follow the fortnight with a long weekend in Barbados to recuperate.”

Effect on sales was magical

J.K. Rowling says she’ll write more mystery novels as Robert Galbraith. You saw the story — on Sunday, the Times of London outed her as the author of The Cuckoo’s Calling, which had sold very modestly until then. The book promptly streaked to the top of the British best-seller charts, the Telegraph reports.

That paper also quotes her saying: “To those who have asked for a sequel, Robert fully intends to keep writing the series, although he will probably continue to turn down personal appearances.”

She’s 47.

Bang… they’re done

That was quick: Man of Steel Henry Cavill and woman of Big Bang Theory Kaley Cuoco are finished as a couple, after a mere two weeks.

E! News,which broke the break-up story, says they split on good terms.

‘Fifty shades of red’

Jenny, successively a Playboy model, an actress, and an anti-vaccination crank, has a talk show on cable outlet VH1. In March when Donnie, once a New Kid on the Block, recorded a guest spot, they shared some racy banter (“Do you talk dirty while you’re having sex?”),

Later, plugging the episode in her Chicago Sun-Times column, McCarthy wrote that “being turned on by a guy is always fun but to have it legitimately happen to you on TV is to be turned back into a 12-year-old… my face turns fifty shades of red.”

And now they’re dating. She’s 40. He’s 43.

Lingerie in lockup

Sandra Bullock told IO Donna, one of the better Italian women’s magazines, that she’s not dating because she’s preoccupied with her son Louis, now 3.

You’ll recall that she’s been single since she dumped that guy Jesse James for fooling around on her.

Anyway, now she says: “The only man in my life is my son, and it’s probably going to stay this way for a while. I go to bed wearing a very baggy, one-piece cheetah suit, just because it makes my son laugh. My sexy lingerie has been locked in a drawer for a while!”

She’s 48.
