Which duck will win?
On Saturday Sept. 7, the Assiniboine Park will hold the Great Manitoba Duck Race, an event to raise money for the Journey to Churchill northern species exhibit. Pick a good viewing spot to watch the yellow rubber ducks battle the current, wind and shoreline dangers in a race to the finish line. Purchase a ticket to claim a rubber duck to compete in the race.
The race starts at 1 p.m. and will begin near the Portage Avenue footbridge. Tickets are available at manitobaduckrace.com.
Street party at the WAG
Tomorrow’s a holiday so why not celebrate by partying on the streets of downtown Winnipeg? On Monday, the Winnipeg Art Gallery will be showing its 100 Masters: Only in Canada exhibition for the last time, and then to celebrate this final viewing, the WAG is inviting people to enjoy live music, chalk artists and outdoor food vendors at a street party.
The gallery will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Celebrate Grandparents Day
School has just started, and soon young kids and teenagers will be busy doing their homework and playing for their sports teams. Before their lives are taken over by school, put aside some time for the family to celebrate Grandparents Day on Sept. 7.
The weather has been beautiful, so there are a lot of activities you can do. Roasting marshmallows over a bonfire, playing cricket or golf, kicking the soccer ball, or fitting in one more family barbeque are just some of the ways you and your family can celebrate Grandparents Day this year.
Market on your calendar
Folks who have been dreading the last day of the downtown farmers market can breathe easy knowing the market’s been extended until Sept. 26.
The market has everything from fresh vegetables to Bavarian pretzels, bison meat, preserves and baked goods, and it’s a great reason to explore our beautiful downtown. The market is located at Manitoba Hydro Place Plaza at the corner of Edmonton Street and Graham Avenue.
Watch the Goldeyes
Go out to a ball game and cheer on the home team because tomorrow is the Goldeyes’ last home game of the regular season.
Finish off the summer season with a visit to the ballpark and cheer on the boys of summer. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE.
Playing on the patio
This Thursday will be your last chance to enjoy the Village Market & Patio Music Series at the Gas Station Arts Centre. Since June 27, the Patio Series has entertained Winnipeggers with free live music by local musicians.
Be sure to take advantage of this final performance and head to the GSAC to enjoy the acoustic folk music by Winnipeg band Red Moon Road. Performances start at 6 p.m.
Time to
saddle up
The Heartland Rodeo begins in Carman on Friday Sept. 6 with a team roping event, kicking off a weekend full of rodeo fun. On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Heartland Rodeo Finals will take place.
On Saturday and Sunday, events start at 1 p.m. and admission for each day is $7. There will also be an awards banquet on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Carman Community hall. Tickets are $25.
