Fancy fundraiser The annual Winnipeg's Top Cop Community Volunteer of the Year gala is being held Nov. 14. The event, which benefits charities supported by the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg, will take place at the Fairmont Winnipeg hotel at 6 p.m. The fundraiser, which celebrates three finalists for their outstanding contributions to the community while off duty, features a three-course plated meal and dancing. Help kids ride horses

Manitoba Riding for the Disabled is holding a Bud, Spud and Steak fundraiser tonight. The event, which helps children living with disabilities take part in a therapeutic horseback-riding program, is being held at the Canad Inns at 1405 St. Matthews Ave., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It features a 50/50 draw and a silent auction. Tickets are $20.

 

Get some pics of your pet

Want to get a photo of your pet with Santa Paws or Hanukkah Paws? The annual fundraiser for the Winnipeg Humane Society is being held Nov. 23 and 30, from noon to 4 p.m., for Santa Paws photos, or on Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., for a Hanukkah pet photo. Photos cost $13 for a 5×7 print and $27 for three 5×7 prints. To book an appointment, go to winnipeghumanesociety.ca.

 

Christmas trees and tea

A display of decorated Christmas trees and wreaths will help local gardens and children living with disabilities. The 2014 Festival of Trees and Lights, a fundraiser for the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation and Gardens Manitoba, will light up the inside of the downtown Manitoba Hydro Gallery at 360 Portage Ave. from Nov. 18 to 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can purchase tickets on-site for a draw to win one of the 40 decorated trees or one of the 25 wreaths there. The draw takes place Nov. 28. There is a free family day on Nov. 22, complete with Santa, face painting and crafts and a Victorian tea party. Tickets for the tea are $15 and can be purchased in advance at the foundation’s office at 633 Wellington Cres. For more information, call 204-453-9840.

 

Student art for sale

On Dec. 7, you can buy artwork created by students at Children of the Earth High School. The students are holding a co-op arts sale at Neechi Commons, 865 Main St., from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
