An anticipated report on Canada Post mailbox installations won’t reach councillors hands until October,
At Tuesday’s public works committee meeting, the city’s transportation manager, Luis Escobar, gave a verbal update on the status of the report and ongoing discussions with the Crown corporation.
The public service was given orders in January to look at various aspects of their installation as Canada Post moves away from door-to-door service.
The report will include looking at the property owners responsibilities, the financial responsibilities for the Crown corporation and no parking sign installations at the site of the new mailboxes.
Escobar said they are continuing to collaborate with Canada Post to ensure users have access to the newly installed mailboxes, noting it is Canada Post who chooses the locations.
He noted Canada Post will be responsible for installing a sidewalk leading up to the mailboxes, if one doesn’t exist, and clearing the snow on this path.
However, snow-clearing for city-sidewalks that lead to these mailboxes will be the responsibility of the city.
Map shows preliminary locations for community mailboxes coming this summer, according to data from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. Residents with postal codes beginning in R2R and R2X will see a roll-out on July 20, while residents in R2N and R2M will see the roll-out begin Aug. 17.
