We’re monitoring the polls, so you don’t have to. Once a week until election day, the Free Press will update its readers on the current poll results. This week we are looking at recent polls from Nanos and Ipsos.

  • Nanos: In its nightly leadership tracker, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper remains the respondents’ top choice for prime minister at 31.4 per cent, followed by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau at 27.4 per cent and NDP Leader Tom Mulcair at 24.8 per cent. Green party Leader Elizabeth May has four per cent of voters behind her and Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe has two per cent.
  • Last week: Harper was at 30.3 per cent, Trudeau at 27 per cent, Mulcair was at 26.1 per cent, May 6.1 per cent and Duceppe was 1.5 per cent
  • Margin of error: The margin of error for a survey of 1,200 respondents is ± 2.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. — Ipsos: A poll released Tuesday shows the Liberals slightly ahead with 33 per cent of decided voters saying they would vote for Trudeau if the election were held tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Conservatives increased their support by five points since Sept. 22 to 32 per cent, 27 per cent would vote NDP and four per cent would vote for both the Greens and Bloc.
  • Last week: Polling results released Sept. 22, showed the Liberals unchanged at 33 per cent, the NDP at 30 per cent, the Conservatives at 27 per cent, the Bloc at five per cent and the Greens at four per cent.
  • Margin of error: The poll is considered accurate to within ± 3.0 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
