Winnipeg city hall has been named in a pay dispute between a general contractor and a sub-trade.

Preset Piling LTD is suing PCL Constructors Canada Inc for $5.7 million, alleging the contractor failed to pay it for additional work done for the upgrade and expansion to the south end sewage treatment plant between 2014 and 2016.

In documents filed in court, Preset states it signed a $17.9 million contract with PCL for site-preparation work, with additional work to be carried out as required and paid for by PCL.

Preset alleges that PCL or city hall refused to pay the firm for the extra site work it had done.

The documents state that Preset filed a lien on the project on March 24, 2016 against PCL for $5.7 million, and states that city hall is obligated to pay Preset the funds out of the holdback portion due to PCL.

The allegations have not be proven in court. Statements of defence from PCL and the City of Winnipeg have not been filed with the court. Trial dates have not yet been set.
