Police charge teen after stabbing

Winnipeg police have arrested a 15-year-old boy after a stabbing Friday night.

Emergency responders were called to the 100 block of Agnes Arnold Place around 8:30 p.m., where they found a 21-year-old who had been stabbed once in his upper body. Although unstable during transport to the hospital, the victim’s condition has since stabilized.

Police say two people got into an argument during a gathering that prompted a third person to intervene physically. The victim was then stabbed.

Bystanders hold attacker for police after Friday night stabbing

Two people are in custody after a young man was stabbed twice Friday night near Portage Place.

Police say a 20-year-old in the 300 block of Portage Avenue, close to where NHL hockey fans were gathered at a street party to watch the Winnipeg Jets take on the Minnesota Wild, was accosted by multiple people he didn’t know.

Although the victim tried to run away he was caught and stabbed twice in his upper body.

Bystanders caught the assailant and kept hold of him until police arrived shortly after 9 p.m.

It’s a “very unfortunate” incident, said Shawn Matthews, director of safety and outreach with Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. The organization has been part of the security system during the playoff street parties.

“There are some concerns when incidents like this happen in the downtown but I just want to assure that we’re working hard to tackle these issues,” Matthews said. He went on to say thee vast majority of revellers have posed no issues.

“The crowds have been great,” he said. “We knew that making things safe and clean and friendly was high priority.”

Police have arrested two people in connection with stabbing. Herbert Junior Bushie, 26, faces charges of aggravated assault and possessing a weapon, while Seivaindo James Bushie, 25, faces charges of aggravated assault. Both are currently in custody.

Police continue to investigate and anyone with information is asked to contact the major crimes unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
