EVEN while many amenities remain closed to the public, Louis Riel Day comes shortly after another loosening of COVID-19 restrictions this year.

As of Friday, museums, libraries, recreational centres and art galleries were allowed to reopen — but not all will be open to the public on the Monday holiday.

The Free Press will not publish a print edition Monday, but will have an e-edition of the paper available for subscribers.

Many businesses and government services change their hours over the long weekend. Here’s a selection:

COVID-19 TEST SITES

All testing sites are open regular hours on Louis Riel Day. The drive-thru testing sites at 1066 Nairn Ave. and 125 King Edward St., and the walk-in sites at 1 Research Rd. and 3975 Portage Ave. will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The MPI drive-thru site at 1284 Main St., the Thunderbird House site at 715 Main St. and the testing sites at 2735 Pembina Hwy. and 604 St. Mary’s Rd. will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The walk-in site at the Garrick Centre (330 Garry St.) will open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the drive-up clinic at 2055 Notre Dame Ave. will be open 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the 17-845 Dakota St. site will open 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

SHOPPING

Polo Park and Kildonan Place mall will open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., St. Vital Centre from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Grant Park Mall from noon to 5 p.m.

The Forks Market will open for its usual hours. The building is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, will open at reduced hours.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Assiniboine Park Zoo will open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Manitoba Museum is closed. The Winnipeg Art Gallery will open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is closed.

RECYCLING AND TRASH

Recycling and garbage will be collected as usual for people with Monday as their collection day.

The Brady Road landfill will open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

All leisure centres remain closed as do City of Winnipeg swimming pools.

WINNIPEG TRANSIT

On Monday, buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

LIBRARIES

All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed.

For detailed information on library hours, call 311 or visit the Winnipeg Public Library website.

CEMETERIES

Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona cemetery grounds will open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cemetery offices will be closed on the holiday.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Civic and provincial offices will stay closed. Because Louis Riel Day isn’t a federal holiday, federal offices may remain open.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority and Winnipeg Animal Services Agency will stay closed.

Canada Post will deliver mail as usual.
