As this week’s snowstorm, hailed as decade-defining, finally settles, many will accept the opportunity to stay home with open arms this long weekend.

The wild weather shut down City of Winnipeg services, businesses, restaurants, libraries and even the Assiniboine Park Zoo on Wednesday and today, and some places that may have been open on a sunnier Friday may still be closed due to weather conditions.

The Free Press remained operational and will be available through the long weekend through its e-edition Friday and Monday.

Many businesses and government services change their hours over the Easter long weekend, with some closing Good Friday and others closing on Easter Monday as well. Here’s a selection:

COVID-19 TEST SITES

All COVID-19 test sites will be closed as of Friday.

Pre-operative patients can still make COVID-19 testing appointments by calling the Dakota Medical Centre (204-254-2087) or the Minor Illness and Injury Clinic through www.covidwpg.com.

Free rapid tests are available at grocery stores and libraries across the city.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, are open at full or reduced hours Friday and Sunday.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg are closed Friday and Sunday. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp. suggests the best way to find out if one is open is to call.
