Former MP Anita Neville to become next lieutenant-governor

Former Winnipeg South Centre MP Anita Neville has been chosen to serve as Manitoba’s next lieutenant-governor.

The office of the lieutenant-governor of Manitoba confirmed the upcoming appointment on Monday morning.

Neville will be the province’s 26th lieutenant-governor and the third woman in the province’s history to hold the position. She will also be the first Jewish lieutenant-governor of Manitoba.

Neville takes over the role from Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon, who has held the position for the past seven years.

“Ms. Neville has long been a champion for the people of her community, her province and our country,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a release. “As lieutenant-governor of Manitoba, I know she will continue to make a difference for Manitobans and Canadians. I wish her all the best in her new role.”

Internet service returned to many Bell MTS customers

After widespread outages affecting TV and internet services, Bell MTS is reporting many of its customers are back online.

The outages began Monday afternoon and impacted users across Manitoba.

At 4 p.m., a Bell MTS spokesperson said it had returned service to many of its users, but some were still experiencing intermittent interruptions to their TV and internet services.

Bell MTS did not say what caused the outages.

“We continue to investigate and thank customers for their patience,” the spokesperson said.

The outages are the latest in a series of interruptions Bell MTS users have experienced this year. The service provider previously pointed to inclement weather and a lack of technicians as contributing to the problem.
