Watchdog
probes arrest
THE police watchdog is investigating after a suspect broke his ankle trying to get away from an officer.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba says the Manitoba First Nations Police Service told them that one of their officers was on the way to a disturbance call on the Roseau River First Nation on Aug. 30, at about 6:01 a.m., when the officer turned on his emergency lights to stop a vehicle.
The vehicle took off at high speed; the driver braked at a stop sign and slid into a ditch.
The driver was arrested after a short foot chase.
The driver was taken to the Morris hospital where he was diagnosed with having a broken ankle.
The IIU is asking anyone who might have information or video footage of the incident to contact them toll free at 1-844-667-6060.
