RCMP arrest third person in assault of woman left in ditch

RCMP have arrested a third suspect in the violent assault of a woman who was driven outside Winnipeg and left in a ditch in the Rural Municipality of East St. Paul two years ago.

Ernest Everett, 44, who was arrested at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre on Friday, faces charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and forcible confinement.

Two women were previously charged, after the 32-year-old victim was assaulted in Winnipeg and on Pipeline Road in East St. Paul, where she was found with serious injuries around 4:25 a.m. on May 21, 2020.

Missing Thompson man

The RCMP is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing Thompson man.

Steven Daniel Linklater, 62, was last seen at his Cree Road residence in Thompson on Monday.

RCMP said on Wednesday Linklater has difficulty remembering where he lives when he goes for a walk.

Linklater is described as six-feet in height, weighs 170 lbs., has dark shoulder-length hair, brown eyes and usually wears a black toque. He could be using a cane to walk.

Man kidnapped in shady Bitcoin deal

A victim thought he was going to make a Bitcoin transaction, but instead was assaulted by a suspect who demanded his cash.

Winnipeg police said a 19-year-old man was held up at gunpoint, assaulted, bound, and then driven around by a suspect who demanded his money on Monday at about 5 p.m.

The victim, who had set up the meeting with someone on social media for a Bitcoin transaction, escaped when the vehicle stopped.

Police later arrested a suspect in the 400 block of Broadway.

A 22-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with several offences including armed robbery using a firearm, forcible confinement, and two counts of assault with a weapon.

Ste. Rose du Lac woman missing

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP is searching for a missing 30-year-old woman from the area.

Kerry Morrisseau was last seen Monday night on 3 Avenue East and is described as 5’7″ and 110 pounds with short dyed black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black shorts with a pink Nike logo, black sandals, and a camouflage yellow and green sweatshirt.

Morrisseau’s family is concerned for her well-being. Anyone with information should contact Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP at 204-447-2513, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or send a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
