Kaitlyn Lawes wins Mother Club Fall Curling Classic women’s title

Kaitlyn Lawes skipped her new Winnipeg team to the Mother Club Fall Curling Classic women’s title Sunday at the Granite Club.Lawes downed Sarah Anderson of Chaska, Minn., 6-2 in the final.

She’s joined by third Selena Njegovan, second Jocelyn Peterman, and lead Kristin MacCuish.

It was the Lawes foursome’s second appearance in an event final this month. The team dropped the championship matchup of the Oslo Cup to Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg overseas on Sept. 4.

In the Mother Club men’s final, Ryan Wiebe slipped past Jordan McDonald 5-4 in a battle of Winnipeg teams.

Wiebe closed out the see-saw affair by using the hammer to score a single in the eighth end.

He’s joined on the team by third Ty Dilello, second Sean Flatt and lead Adam Flatt.
