Civic election advanced polls open now

Winnipeggers can begin casting ballots to select their next mayor and council at advance polling stations.

Two locations to cast a ballot opened Oct. 3: one at City Hall’s council building (510 Main Street) and one at the Canada Life Centre’s City Place bridge (300 Portage Avenue).

Later this week, advance polls open in community centres, shopping malls and universities.  See a full list of times and dates on the city’s website.

Advance voting is available until Oct. 21 at 4 p.m..  Election day is Oct. 26.

Voter eligibility

To vote for mayor and council, a person must be a Canadian citizen at least 18 years old on Oct. 26, and have lived in Winnipeg or owned property here since April 26, 2022.

To vote for school trustee, the person must also have lived in  a school division since April 26, and in the school division ward on voting day.  People who own property in a school division but do not live there are not eligible to vote for school trustee.

Voters must show proof of name and address to vote.  Valid identification includes a single piece of ID that shows the voter’s name and current home address, or two documents that together show the name and current home address.

Examples of acceptable documents: a voter’s notice, driver’s licence, enhanced identification card, SIN card, birth certificate, Canadian passport, credit or debit card, utility bill, health insurance card, or blank personalized cheque.
