Men arrested after truck hits cars, house in North End

A driver and passenger were arrested after the vehicle they were in hit several parked cars and a house on Flora Avenue near Parr Street around midnight Sunday.

Police said the driver of a truck tried to flee during a traffic stop, eventually losing control and smashing into cars and a house.

After a foot chase, a man was arrested. Both driver and passenger were injured; the passenger is in stable condition in hospital, while the driver was treated and released.

Police said they found about $6,000 worth of methamphetamine in the crashed truck as well as several mobile phones.

Two men, aged 23 and 33, are facing a slew of charges including drug possession for trafficking, possession of stolen property, identity fraud, flight while being pursued by police, and dangerous driving.

Teen victim in Balmoral Street homicide

The victim of a homicide on Balmoral Street on Friday was a 16-year-old Winnipeg boy, police said Sunday.

The boy was found outside a home in the 500 block of Balmoral Street early Friday morning.  On Saturday, police said the death was suspicious.

No further information on the victim was released Sunday.

Man found dead near Sherbrook Street

A man was found dead in the early hours of the morning on Sunday near Sherbrook Street and Cumberland Avenue.

Police have declared the death as a homicide due to the nature of the injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police ask anyone with information that may assist investigators to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Fire breaks out in apartment building on Sargent Avenue

A fire broke out in a three-storey apartment building in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue at 4:53 a.m. on Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the scene where the building was engulfed in heavy flames and smoke. The fire was brought under control at 5:12 a.m.

Only one person was reported injured and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
