Burton plays the Burt Dec. 28 and 31

Burton Cummings returns to his old hometown Dec. 28 and 31 to play two shows at the concert venue that bears his name.

Tickets for the general public go on sale Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com but the ticket broker is hosting ticket presales on Oct. 19 and 20 at 10 a.m. as well.

The Dec. 28 show is billed as an unplugged event featuring Cummings and his band while the former Guess Who frontman will hold a 75th birthday bash at the Dec. 31 concert, with ticketholders receiving a free souvenir lanyard and laminate for the occasion.

Six tables, room for four people each, will be set up at the front of the stage and are available for purchase in addition to regular seating at the theatre.

Ticket prices for the concerts haven’t been released. A press release from True North Sports and Entertainment, which owns the theatre, says proceeds from the concerts will go toward building improvements, a commitment Cummings made in 2002 when the auditorium, which was known as the Walker Theatre, was named in his honour.

Man, 56, arrested in alleged child sex assault

Winnipeg police have arrested a man accused of luring and sexually assaulting an at-risk teenage girl.

Child abuse investigators were first warned a man had made the acquaintance of two at-risk girls in August.

One of the girls reported going to a park in Winnipeg’s Centennial neighbourhood, where a suspect met her and offered her liquor if she kissed him. When she declined, police said, he grabbed her and tried to kiss her. She fled to safety.

Police identified the suspect and the Manitoba Integrated High Sex Offender Unit, made up of RCMP and city officers, arrested Luigi Deangelis, 56, on Oct. 17. He was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and obtaining sexual services from a person under 18. He was detained.

Two injured in Portage la Prairie home invasion

A man has been arrested after a home invasion in Portage la Prairie left two people injured.

Portage la Prairie RCMP said on Tuesday a 72-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man received minor injuries after a man, 24, got inside an apartment suite on 13th Street NW on Oct. 14 at about 11:05 a.m.

The suspect demanded money before fleeing on foot. A patrolling officer arrested the man nearby after his description was sent out.
