Man dies in Selkirk RCMP cell
MANITOBA’S Independent Investigation Unit is investigating after a man died in a cell at the RCMP detachment in Selkirk.
The man was placed in custody under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday and taken to the detachment, the IIU said.
Police still had the man in custody on Monday night after “other matters came to light,” the IIU said in a news release.
The man “was found unresponsive” in the cell at about 7:10 p.m. Monday. He was taken to the Selkirk hospital and declared dead.
The IIU is asking anyone with information or video footage that might help their investigation to call 1-844-667-6060.
The man’s age wasn’t released.
Police arrest alleged drug dealer
WINNIPEG police arrested a man accused of carrying a loaded gun while dealing drugs by bicycle in the North End Wednesday.
Police said they began investigating the suspect on Monday.
At about 2 a.m. Wednesday, officers on patrol spotted the man riding an electric bike near McGregor Street and Burrows Avenue, and pulled him over.
He gave a false name and fled after “becoming unco-operative and damaging the police vehicle,” police said.
He ditched the bike and ran away, but was located on the 500 block of Alfred Street.
Police seized a loaded sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, ammunition, about 28 grams of cocaine, about a gram of fentanyl and cash.
A man from Winnipeg has been detained.
