The provincial government wants Manitobans to know that when their cellphones make a siren sound on Wednesday, it’s not an emergency, but a test.

The province’s emergency measures organization said on Tuesday an emergency alert test will go out on compatible mobile phones, as well as televisions and radios, on Nov. 16 at 1:55 p.m.

The tests are conducted so people know what a real emergency alert sounds like.

The province warns that because of problems including cell tower coverage, device incompatibility and device settings, not everyone will get the alert.

Six Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been named to the CFL’s 2022 all-star team.

Quarterback Zach Collaros, wide receiver Dalton Schoen, left tackle Stanley Bryant, guard Patrick Neufeld, defensive back Deatrick Nichols, and kick returner Janarion Grant were all named to the squad.

City police are searching for a missing woman who was last seen this summer.

Sheniece (Sage) Meeches, 23, was last seen in the downtown area of Winnipeg in early July. She is described as 5-3 in height, with thin build, medium-length brown hair and brown eyes.

The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to call their missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.

 

Premier Heather Stefanson announced a Dec. 13 byelection in Kirkfield Park.

The vacancy was created by the June 17 resignation of former cabinet minister Scott Fielding, the provincial government said in a press release. The Progressive Conservative candidate Kevin Klein is being challenged by NDP candidate Logan Oxenham; Dennis Bayomi of the Green party; and Rhonda Nichol of the Liberals.

Information about polling times, locations, and the dates and locations of advance polls will be released in the coming days.

RCMP are asking for the public’s help in finding a RM of Whitemouth man missing for a week.

Daniel Rockenstein, 35, was last seen on Nov. 8, and hasn’t contacted his family since then.

Rockenstein needs a wheelchair to get around, but also could be driving a grey 2010 Mazda 5 with Manitoba plate FPU 152. He is described as 5-foot-8, weighing 190 pounds with long brown hair and blue eyes.
