The Manitoba government has introduced a bill that would require those registering an off-road vehicle to pay a $25 fee on top of the registration free.

The Off-Road Trails Safety and Maintenance Act says the fee is due at the same time as the registration fee when an off-road vehicle is registered under the Highway Traffic Act.

Revenue from the new fee may be granted to organizations to promote off-road vehicle and trail safety, to maintain existing trails, create new ones and restore land damaged by the use of off-road vehicles, the bill says.

Permits authorizing people to use snowmobiles on designated snowmobile trails are to be dealt with under the new act, it said.
