Stolen vehicle located with dog inside

Winnipeg police have located a vehicle that was stolen with a dog inside Saturday.

The black BMW X5 was found at 11:50 a.m. unoccupied in the St. James Industrial area with the black lab.

Police put out a call for help Saturday morning after the vehicle was taken from the Old Tuxedo neighbourhood.

Wheeler out at least a month with groin injury

The Winnipeg Jets will be without veteran forward Blake Wheeler for at least a month after he suffered a gruesome groin injury on Thursday night.

Wheeler took a shot to the midsection off the stick of teammate Josh Morrissey midway through the game. He missed about eight minutes of action, but returned to play the third period.

He underwent surgery on Friday.

Karson Kuhlman will take Wheeler’s spot in the lineup, making his Jets debut on a line with Mark Scheifele and Cole Perfetti as the Jets face the Vancouver Canucks tonight. Kuhlman was picked up on waivers earlier this week from Seattle.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, a healthy scratch the last two games, will also play tonight, taking the spot of Michael Eyssimont.

Jets’ Schimidt out 4-6 weeks with injury

The hits keep coming for the Winnipeg Jets.

Defenceman Nate Schmidt is expected to miss between four to six weeks with an upper-body injury suffered on Thursday against Nashville. Forward Tanner Jeannot caught him with a heavy hit in the first period, knocking him out of the game.

No penalty was called on the play.

Defenceman Kyle Capobianco will take Schmidt’s spot in the lineup tonight as the Jets open a two-game road trip in Vancouver.

Winnipeg is also without defenceman Logan Stanley, and forwards Blake Wheeler, Nikolaj Ehlers, Mason Appleton and Saku Maenalanen due to injuries. All are still multiple weeks away from returning.

Three arrested following string of break-ins, thefts

Winnipeg police have charged three Winnipeggers after 40 condominium and apartment complexes were broken into over the course of 40 days.

Police say between Nov. 4 and Dec. 14, six vehicles were stolen, and doors and storage lockers were pried open to steal property. It’s estimated the incidents caused $250,000 in damage and approximately $100,000 worth of items were stolen.

A 26-year-old man, a 44-year-old man, and a 22-year-old woman are facing various break and enter, and theft charges. All three suspects remain in custody.

Man, 23, facing firearms charges after incident at Polo Park

A 23-year-old man from Woodlands is facing charges after an incident at Polo Park Friday night.

Winnipeg police responded to a report of a man armed with a gun at Polo Park. Mall security later tracked the man to a restaurant in the 600 block of St. James Street.

Police arrested the man at the restaurant and found a handgun in his possession.

Police say its believed the suspect had been involved in an altercation at the mall with another man he knew and pointed the gun at him. No shots were fired.

The suspect remains in custody.
